Explorer Scouts are boys and girls aged 14 to 18 years of age. This section meets at a different venue, and operates very similar to the regular Scout section although the focus is on the Scouts to organise the evening and trips with minimal adult help and supervision. They aim to achieve all the different Scout awards and The Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

There are three local units:

  • Harrow Explorers (Raptor)
Meet on Wednesdays, 8-10pm, at the Brigade HQ in South Harrow. Contact Paul email  paul.turner@harrowscouts.org.uk
  • Harrow on Hill Explorers
Meet Thursday evening 6.15pm – 8.15pm at 17th Harrow Scout Hut by St Anselms Primary School. Contact Paul email  paul.turner@harrowscouts.org.uk
  • Ruislip Explorers
Meet Tuesday 7.30 – 9.30pm in Ruislip. Location is emailed each Monday. See website for details. http://ruislipexplorers.com/

You can choose which Unit you wish to attend, maybe where your friends go or the night or place that is convenient for you. You can visit all the Units and see which you prefer. As well as the regular weekly meetings there are also weekend camps and activities during the year.

You may have seen Explorer Scouts helping with the Troop or Cub Pack or Beaver Colony as Young Leaders. If you would like to do this you need to talk to the Leaders in in that section to see if this is possible. The only condition is that you cannot work with your own Scout Troop until you have been an Explorer Scout for at least six months. Young Leaders attend regular Explorers and work as Young Leaders.
